Porcelain veneers and dental hygiene
Porcelain veneers can last more than ten years with good dental hygiene. In addition to regular brushing and flossing, regular visits to Dr. Folck’s office can help you maintain good dental hygiene.
You don’t need to worry about porcelain veneers coming off during a cleaning. They’re bonded to your teeth with a glue-like substance when they’re fitted. Some of the technology used by dental hygienists may be too harsh for your porcelain veneers. For example, the use of power polishing equipment can damage the surface of a porcelain veneers. Ultrasonic scalers, which are typically used to remove plaque, are also instruments to use with care since they can cause chips in veneers. Using polishes containing pumice or other harsh abrasives can cause chipping or pitting of a veneer’s surface. Finally, if you’re receiving fluoride treatments to prevent tooth decay and enhance your dental hygiene, be sure that your dental hygienist is using a neutral fluoride. More acidic solutions are not recommended for people with porcelain veneers.
The dental team at Dr. Michael Folck’s practice in Virginia Beach is well aware of the delicate nature of veneers and knows how to treat them, and you, with care.

Porcelain veneers when maintained could last for up to 10 years but if not, perhaps for almost 5 years it could already be destroyed and chipped that's why it's good if you'll visit a specialist dentist frequently.
