The Truth About Porcelain Crowns

Believe it or not, dental porcelain is easily sculpted to closely resemble the look and feel of natural tooth enamel. Given that, porcelain crowns are an exceptional choice for dental patients needing to form the shape, size, color and functionality of any damaged tooth.

Porcelain crowns will replace the external portion of a tooth right down to the gum level. They are not limited to a simple replacement of an existing tooth, but can be shaped into an aesthetically appealing appearance. Our Virginia Beach cosmetic dentist, Dr. Michael Folck can guide you to the best option to repair your dental irregularities. Please call 757.428.7440.

Porcelain Crown Onlays
A dental inlay is a permanent solution for cavities which is cemented into place to provide structural support and stop the filling from loosening. Most inlays are made of porcelain and will be matched in color to your real teeth in a way that is natural-looking.

Porcelain crown onlays are similar to inlays in how they are made, but different in the way they are attached. While an inlay will sit between the cusps of your tooth, an onlay attaches up and over the cusps. Porcelain crown onlays provide structural integrity and strength to the damaged tooth. However, if a tooth is strenuously compromised, a dental crown onlay may be a wiser choice.

Both inlays and onlays are healthy ways to repair teeth that have been weakened by decay or are cracked and chipped. By placing a crown over the top of your natural tooth, you are providing a permanent seal against future tooth decay. It also restores strength to your bite in a seamless and healthy-looking way.

If you reside in the Virginia Beach, VA area and need to find a solution for strengthening and improving your smile, please contact Dr. Michael Folck, DDS for your initial consultation. Or, call 757.428.7440 to schedule an appointment.

How To Have A Smile You Can Be Proud Of

If you have one or more teeth that are decayed or damaged, you may not be smiling as much or may feel self-conscious about your smile. One way to enhance your smile and create one that you can be proud of is to restore your teeth with porcelain inlays and onlays. This is a technique which easily improves the look, function, beauty, and health of your grin.
Porcelain inlays and onlays are partial crowns which resemble dental fillings. Unlike dental fillings however, which are created from composite resins, inlays and onlays are crafted from porcelain.

Uses of Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays can all be used to restore any decayed or damaged teeth you may have.

Here is the difference between the two:
·                  Inlays - used when damage excludes the cusp of the tooth
·                  Onlays - repairs damage that extends to the cusps of the tooth

Our Chesapeake cosmetic dentist, Dr. Michael Folck starts by first gently removing any tooth that has damage or decay, cleaning it thoroughly, and then bonding your porcelain inlay or onlay on to the tooth.

For more information about how inlays and onlays can improve your smile, please contact Dr. Michael Folck, DDS today. Or, call 757.428.7440 for your initial consultation.
